As a husky owner, running around in the snow for hours in the winter is our favorite thing to do! But with winter comes the snow, salt and dry paws & nose. Here are 4 ways to care for your dog during winter :
1. Protect those paws! You may notice your pup's paws get dry and may start cracking during winter months because of snow and salt. The best way to protect the paws are to buy snow boots for your pups. Not only will they look cute, you won't have to worry about cracked paw pads!
2. If your pup is like mine and hates boots, make sure to wash their paws with dog friendly soap, dry and put balm on their nose and paws to avoid cracks caused by dry salt.
3. Chill out on baths! Dogs usually do not need a bath for 2-3 months and as the weather gets colder, the air gets dryer which causes their skin to dry out quickly. If you need to, use a pet safe deodorizing spray ( I recommend looking for products with natural ingredients as some contain alcohol and parfum)
4. Last but not the least, invest in a GOOD quality balm for your dogs! If you are on a budget, you can also make your balm at home with coconut oil, it helps heal the paws and smells so good!
